We at YWCA Toronto are heartbroken at the reversal of Roe v. Wade. This decision undermines nearly a half century of progress on reproductive justice and signals a devastating erosion of human rights. We send our love and solidarity to everyone impacted by this troubling development.
The YWCA movement is pro-choice. We believe women and gender diverse people have the right to make their own reproductive health decisions – to decide what happens to their bodies and when. Access to free, safe, timely and quality abortion care is a healthcare necessity and should be protected at all costs. Safe abortions save lives.
Overturning the constitutional right to abortion in the United States will disproportionately harm Black women, poor and disabled women, gender diverse people, and girls. We stand in solidarity with reproductive justice advocates – and echo the calls by YWCA USA and Planned Parenthood urging action. #WeWontGoBack #BansOffOurBodies
